Upload External Documents into a Frank Conversation

How to attach files directly in a Frank conversation, reference previously uploaded documents with @, and use reports and exports to get projections and analysis from Frank.

Frank can work with documents you bring into a conversation, not just your bank data. Whether it's a P&L, a tender, a contract, or a CRM export, you can attach it directly and ask Frank to analyse it, factor it into a forecast, or compare it against your financials.

How to Attach a File to a Conversation

To upload a file directly into a conversation:

  1. Go to the conversation where you want to share the document.

  2. Click the + button next to the message input field.

  3. Select Add a file and choose the document from your computer.

  4. Once uploaded, Frank has the file in context for that conversation — you can then ask him anything about it.

Referencing a Document You've Already Uploaded

If you've previously uploaded a document to Frank (via the Documents page), you don't need to re-upload it. Type @ in the message field, and Frank will show you a list of documents already on file. Select the one you want, and Frank will pull it into the conversation as context.

This works for any document that's been uploaded: invoices, reports, contracts, or anything else you've shared with Frank before.

Viewing the Document While You Chat

Once a file is attached, you can open it alongside the conversation. This is useful when the document is long or dense, a big report with lots of dates and figures, for example, so you can scan the source material while Frank works through it with you.

What You Can Do With It

Attaching a document is most powerful when you want Frank to factor external information into a projection or check something against your actual numbers. Some examples:

  • P&L from another system: Upload it and ask Frank to compare it against your bank data or factor it into a cash flow projection.

  • WIP report: Useful in construction or project-based businesses to see how work in progress affects your cash position.

  • Pipeline or CRM export: If you have deals you expect to close, give Frank the export and ask him to project revenue for the next 3, 6, or 9 months based on what's in the pipeline.

  • Tenders and contracts: Share a document and ask Frank to summarise payment terms, flag key dates, or factor the contract value into your forecast.

If the information is simple, you can just describe it to Frank in the chat. For anything more complex, detailed reports, exports with multiple rows, or documents with specific dates and amounts, attaching the file directly gives Frank more accurate context to work with.

Summary

Use the + button to attach a file to any conversation, or type @ to reference a document already uploaded to Frank. Once Frank has the document in context, you can ask questions about it, view it side by side, or use it as the basis for a forecast, turning external reports into real financial insight without leaving Frank.
