Uploading Bills, Invoices, Receipts & Checks to Frank

How to upload documents to Frank's document page, what Frank does with them, and how they improve your cash flow forecast and create a full paper trail.

Frank's document uploader lets you bring bills, invoices, and receipts into Frank, even when they don't flow in automatically from your accounting system. Once uploaded, Frank scans each document, links it to the matching bank transaction, and factors it into your cash flow forecast.

How to Upload Documents

  1. Go to the Documents page from the left-hand menu.

  2. Drag and drop your files onto the page, or click to browse and select them. You can upload one at a time or in bulk.

  3. You can also email the documents to Frank.

  4. Frank accepts bills, invoices, and receipts.

Uploading to the Right Company or Entity

If you manage more than one company or entity in Frank, it's worth double-checking where a document lands before you upload or forward it.

Manual uploads: When you drag and drop or browse for a file on the Documents page, it's filed under whichever entity is currently selected in the entity switcher at the top of the page. Frank doesn't ask you to confirm this, so check the switcher first if you're working across multiple companies.

Forwarding by email: If you have more than one entity, each one gets its own whitelisted forwarding address. Use the address for the specific entity the document belongs to, rather than the shared [email protected] address.

Sending to the shared address can result in the document being filed under whichever entity your account last had selected, rather than the one you intended.

If a document does end up filed under the wrong company or entity, reach out to your Frank support contact rather than trying to move or delete it yourself.

Depending on what the document already matched to, correcting it may involve cleaning up linked transactions as well.

What Frank Does with Your Documents

After you upload, Frank scans each document and looks for a matching transaction in your bank feed. He checks for matches roughly four times a day. When he finds a match based on the vendor, amount, and date, he automatically links the document to the transaction.

This gives you a complete paper trail inside Frank. If there's ever a dispute with a supplier, you can pull up the original bill or receipt without having to hunt through anyone's inbox.

If the payment hasn't come through by the time you upload, Frank will keep looking. As soon as the bank transaction arrives and it matches, he'll link them together.

Impact on Your Cash Flow Forecast

Uploaded documents also feed Frank's cash flow forecast. When Frank has a bill or invoice on file, he can see the due date, the amount, and whether it's been paid, and he factors all of that into the 30-, 60-, 90-, and 180-day forecast.

The more documents you give Frank, the more accurate his forecast becomes. This is especially useful if your accounting system doesn't automatically pull in bills from all your suppliers.

Documents and Reconciliation

When Frank links a bill to a bank payment, that connection also powers the Auto Reconciliation feature. Frank can use it to mark the bill as paid in your accounting system (QuickBooks or Xero) as part of the reconciliation process, so the work you do in one place carries through automatically.

For businesses making batch payments, such as a single lump-sum transfer covering multiple vendor bills, Frank can link each bill to the single payment and mark them all as settled.

Summary

Upload bills, invoices, and receipts via the Documents page, either one at a time or in bulk. Frank will match them to your bank transactions, build your paper trail, improve your cash flow forecast, and power more accurate auto-reconciliation. The more documents Frank has, the less manual work you'll need to do later.
