Understanding What's Included in the Available Balance Total
The Available Balance figure at the top of the Banking Overview (And the main Frank Dashboard) represents the sum across all your connected checking and savings accounts. Credit accounts are shown separately under Available Credit.
If an account appears to be missing from the total, it may have been excluded manually. You can check this by clicking Edit on any account card, then expanding Advanced Options. There you'll find the setting: "Don't include this account's balance in totals" โ if this is checked, that account's balance will not be counted toward the Available Balance figure.
How Frank Gets Your Balance Data
Frank connects to your bank accounts through third-party bank connectors (you can see which accounts are linked under Banking Overview).
Frank will always attempt to update your bank and credit card feeds overnight so you're always up-to-date when looking at your numbers.
Each account card on the Banking Overview page displays a "Last updated" timestamp directly below the balance (e.g., "Last updated: Mar 31, 05:26 PM"). This tells you the last received transaction date from your bank for that account.
The Available Balance figure shown in the summary card at the top is the sum of all your connected checking and savings account balances as of those last-updated timestamps.
This is why you may see a balance that appears to be from several days ago โ the number shown reflects the last time Frank successfully synced with your bank, not today's live balance.
How to Refresh Your Balance
You can manually trigger a fresh sync at any time. Here's how:
Go to Banking in the left navigation
Find the bank group you want to refresh (e.g., "Chase, RBC, Westpac")
Click the โฎ (three-dot) menu icon in the top-right corner of that bank group
Select "Update Connection"
Frank will then attempt to re-establish the connection and pull the latest balance and transaction data from your bank. You'll see a "Connecting..." spinner while the sync is in progress. Once complete, the "Last updated" timestamp on each account card will reflect the new sync time.
Note: If the connection fails or your bank requires re-authentication (which happens periodically with many banking integrations), you may be prompted to log back in through your bank's portal to restore the link.
